About the event
Singing transforms the singer. The vibrations that are created inside and outside the body create motion and emotion and have the power of creation within them. Multiple voices singing together in unison transforms the group, teaching us how to come together on the same frequency. When these same voices sing together in harmony - each voice, each melody different and beautiful in its own right, blending and weaving in mutual exaltation - we begin to create a new world. One where each individual’s contribution is essential and beautiful, and we find ways to create beauty together using our unique gifts.
The Chrysalis Choir is born of a desire to weave a container where all voices are welcome to take a deep dive into cultivating harmony with purpose within ourselves, in the group, and in the world. Each session holds a unique focus as the thread that weaves the song selections together.
The focus of the Summer 2024 Chrysalis Choir is Self Love. This session is a 6 week commitment: every Wednesday, from 6pm-8pm, July 31st - September 4. September 4 will be a Big Sing, where we invite the broader community to join us in singing as we share the songs, the harmony, and the magic we have cultivated.
We sing in the a cappella oral tradition. No need to read music. Songs are designed to be easily broken down, so participants can choose how complex or simple their part will be. All musical levels are welcome, and no experience is necessary!
All session dates will be held at the Tucson Creative Dance Center, located at 3131 N. Cherry Ave. This is a magnificent resonance chamber half-buried under the earth with a powerful roots in liberatory improvisational dance focalized by Barabara Mettler. It is currently under the stewardship of the Nature Conservancy.
The choir is using a sliding scale for registration. If you are unsure where you fall on the sliding scale, please check out this link for guidance.
